I got this dress because the print reminded me of a 60s Hawaiian dress, granted the style is a bit more modified 40s with its cinched waist and button detail, but the colours and tropical print sold me on this piece.

Of course this print make me think of the 1961 movie, Blue Hawaii staring Elvis.

Firstly, this is NOT me.

I'm a photographer, so I shoot this session.

My model was the lovely Christine, who I contacted when I initially had this concept for a natural, creek type shoot. I really wanted a berry crown so my best friend Bibbles (Bless him and his great ideas) ordered this from a local florist. Alicia Hathaway was my AMAZING makeup artist and I highly recommend you check her out here.

Anyway this shoot came together almost exactly like I had it in my mind, which as you fellow photographers know, is very rare. This is my favorite set by far and it's only encouraging me to keep shooting and building an even better portfolio! Exciting things!

On friday I did a little photo shoot with my assistant, makeup artist and a model at a pretty creek in Slo. We had this berry crown especially made for the shoot, so the next day I decided to do a little look with it myself. Hey.. I cant let such an elegant crown go to waste, can I?

I've come to realize that I do a very strange thing.

I completely turn off my emotions and become completely cold when I feel like I'm going to get hurt.

I just shut down. I stare off into space, not thinking or feeling anything. When others try to speak to me I feel like I can't return any kind of response. I want to move my body, reposition my legs but I remain frozen.

I've never been able to control this sensation of emotional coldness.
My mind quickly responds to threats and shuts down.
January is cold.

And now.. Bubbles.

It's dusk and it's cold. You're stomping along, crushing withered, tawny leaves only to peer at the sky through wire branches. At this moment everything is in a frozen purple haze of a covering world. This is when you realize that the moon wasn't always above you. Two nights ago it was floating above the distant hills. And two weeks ago there were no leaves to crush under studded boots.

As you move at an easy pace, the empty trees seem to rotate like silent and dark carousels.
Everything stops, everything keeps going.

I'm getting back to my 60s roots, especially with this look. That is kind of odd for me to say because really so much of modern fashion is 60s based and no one even realizes it. Anything a-line and shift. Tights. Collared coats and dresses. So much has carried over, that is considered normal and "today".
Anywho time for my big news!!!
The amazing clothing company I work for called Collection B is going to have a FULL PAGE ad in the next issue of NYLON magazine, featuring myself and some photographs I took!
So basically I'm going to be in Nylon Magazine!

So it's a brand new year... now what? What changes and what should continue to stay the same? I'm 20 and done with "real" college, until I head to the art academy this fall. I've got so many months to figure everything out, but I know all of this time is just going to zoom right by.

Honestly, this is why I've never liked January.

It's that dull, grey month of ..now what? The Christmas lights and tree come down, the confetti and the glitter from NYE has been dusted up, all the excitement from the holidays brings us on a fast downward turn to.. well.. nothing really. It's kind of like hopping on this amazing bus headed to your favorite place on earth with colour and light and love, then suddenly being booted off in an unexpected dusty, and lonely farmland where the dark sky fades into the dark dirt.

Maybe that's a bit harsh.. but January can't hold a brightly coloured bulb to December.

The saving grace is that you know, someday soon that fantastical bus will circle on back to invite you on board once again.

These fun retro inspired glasses I got from Proopticals.

They have a sweet tint and you don't have to be blind to wear them. They are purely style based, which seems to be popular these days. I think they kind of look like Buddy Holly glasses.

Resolutions.

Red dress- Gift from Pete (Rachael Antonoff)

All the above photos were taken last weekend in San Francisco for New ears! I ventured up there with my two best friends Bibbles and Pete. We stayed in a freakin AMAZING place called the Adagio Hotel. We had a corner suite with big windows looking over the gorgeous downtown buildings. I couldn't have been happier. We decided to continue with tradition and grab a cab to (as close to) the embarcadero as we could get, and watch the fireworks over the bay bridge. The crowds were insane as to be expected. But overall it was a great night! Another fantastic way to bring in a new year.

Resolutions-
I do this every new year. I make a list, of usually about 5 things that I want to accomplish in the new year. These aren't things I want to change, or fix. They are positive goals to reach before the year is done. Last year I managed to knock out all 5 things by early June, which I was extremely pleased about.

This new year I'm doing another 5 resolutions and here they are-

1. Assist an established photographer in my area (or get a "real" job)
2. Buy my new Ziess Lens!
3. Put more effort into creating the best blog I can.
4. Move to Sf
5. Attend the Art Academy

Lets see how this year goes!

So I've been a bit spoiled this Christmas. I have a great, giving family and thoughtful, generous friends.

What the hell.

I really don't think I deserved the amount or quality of incredible gifts I received, but I'm really thankful. We give gives to our loved ones on holidays, not because we are expected to but because we want to. We do this to give a silent reminder to that we are grateful for them, celebrating another year together. Obvious point there. But at Christmas time nothing is better than watching everyone slowly open their gifts, laughing and smiling, while Michael Buble's holiday Cd plays in the background. Just being together is the best gift.. as cheesy as that sounds.

So, in an effort to dig back into the shallow blogging world here's some sweet gifts I received,

Bubble machine, freakin 7 seasons of Seinfeld, tons of pretty forever 21 dresses, Two Faced makeup, Warhol calenders, tons of over the knee socks, candy galore, Apples to Apples, New Orleans swag, jewlery, and soooo much more.

But two really amazing things that I was not expecting came from two of my best friends.

From Bibbles, (the cute mexican roommate) I got the above pair of black Jeffery Campbell Litas! That was really unexpected and crazy thoughtful. The guy knows style, for sure.

The other gift came from my good friend Pete (cute guy with great hair and eyebrows), who went way overboard and bought me my dream dress! The Rachel Antonoff Crimson and collars dress-

I mean holy crap, Batman.

That's amazing.

Again, thank you to everyone who made my holiday the best ever.

I finished up a shoot yesterday of a male model at a local mission, and then decided to hop over to an adorable Christmas tree farm with my friend Pete. I haven't done a shoot with him yet and I think he did such a great job! We're driving to Santa Barbara Tomorrow for a nice big ol Christmas shopping day! Photos to follow!

Today was my last day at my College in SLO, Cuesta.

I said goodbye to my art history teacher, my art history seat that I've coveted for two and a half years and 5 classes of nothing but 30,000 years of art. I was very excited when I realized that I was all finished with my AA Art history degree and I could attend the Academy of Art in SF next fall, but today was difficult. I aced both my finals and walked down that art department hallway with heavy heels. When I turned around in the parking lot to take a last look, it was a nostalgic time of day when the sun was low and glowing on the side of the white auditorium.

And that school has never looked better.

I'll miss it.

Not only is brownie the cutest little goatie I have ever laid my eyes on but brownie with a bow? Come on. That's just a cute overload.

Ive gotten pretty much all my shopping done for Christmas and beyond. Which is nice because I can just focus on finals and decorating my house... which really looks amazing. My house around this time of the year is really beautiful and inviting. Constant xmas music playing, lights strung up EVERYWHERE, chilly air to keep the tree alive, and snoozing kitties! Okay, that last one is a basic everyday occurrence but I'd like to think that they sleep a little better knowing its the holidays and even their little kitty stockings will be filled.

Book Box DIY

Whoa.. why hello very neglected blog! ...Well this is awkward... I know I have been around for awhile, but its only because I've been so very busy with my school finals and the upcoming holidays. Things are wacky these days but so very special at the same time. I'm hoping to get caught up on some looks and 60s inspiration very soon, BUT in the mean time I made a DIY especially for you!

It's a vintage looking book box, an idea that I've been wanting to try for awhile.

What you'll need-

-A cool looking book you're willing to cut up

-Box cutter/exacto knife

-Strong, clear drying glue ( I used mod podge)

-a large paintbrush

- A ruler and a pencil

Find a cool book. I used Sound and the Fury by William Faulkner which I bought

at a local vintage book shop.

Close the book but leave out the front hard cover and the first page.

Slather on your glue along the outside pages with the paintbrush.

Make sure your pages are flat all together so when it dries the pages will be stuck

together creating a big chunk.

Using the ruler, measure about a half and inch on each edge and mark. Then draw a long line that cuts through your marks. This will make a rectangle, which you will then carefully cut through.

Slowly you will keep cutting down through every page until you reach the back cover.

This will take awhile and you'll have plenty of ragged edges on the inside.

Finally, tear up the pages that you have already cut out to make the bottom of your box.

Spread more glue down and randomly place the words wherever you like, making sure that

the entire inside is covered.

And there you have it! A book box! This makes an excellent gift box or just a gift!
I think I'm going to further make mine into a clutch with an interesting gold clasp to keep it closed.

This is a shoot I did last week, the day before Halloween. My best friend, who is a fantastic makeup artist from LA came up to visit for the holiday and we wanted to do a shot together before she left. Although extremely last minute, we found a model THAT morning and threw together an idea involving a gypsy witch style. I grabbed some wicked looking clothing from my sister's closest (haha), contacted a sweet model, and drove to an abandoned house in SLO.. ironically behind a home depot.

Luckily everything worked out and both Alicia And I were really happy with the results.

This a going to be a post about love. So I don't blame you if you just skip over all the context and go straight to looking at the pretty pictures. I would. Because I'm not sure how much I understand it. I've been grappling with this concept forever it seems. I've grown up with love. I've seen my parents together, how they look at each other and how no matter how many years go by they keep getting stronger and stronger. I asked my mom how she knew she loved my dad. She said, "I just know. He is it for me. and I'm it for him." I heard the cheer in her voice when describing how they met and just after 10 months they were married. I kept wondering, but HOW do you know? Are there unique signs? Is it a sudden lightning strike of conviction? Or is it something that grows and develops over time?

I know it exists because I have seen it. It's that tangible glow in a someone's eyes when they look at you.

I've always been somewhat cold. I didn't mind being alone. And after years of disappointment in relationships, I think I lost the point of love. I'm still trying to find it, or if there even is a definitive point to the whole idea/feeling/belief.

Maybe love isn't something you have to understand.

I know I love my family, I know I love my friends and I know I love my animals.

Chelsea boots, shift dresses, colour block, peter pan collars, double breasted coats, and a-line skirts; The 60s Mod style is in for Fall 2011! We've seen it before, as the weather gets colder, the warm tones of the 1960s fall back into autumn and this year it's all Mod.

One excellent mod fashion inspiration for this fall is the ever popular Fashion model, Twiggy.

Her dresses were always short, a-line with bold colours and clean, geometric lines.

Another 60s mod inspiration is the Designer Mary Quant.

Pair her mini skirt "invention" with a pair of dark, rich tights.

I headed up to SF last weekend with my best friend Robert for his 22nd birthday.

We spent a lot of time out on the fire escape of our hotel, taking photos and taking in the views.

There is something so charming about rickety old bars and ladders outside an brick building.

It's comforting knowing that there is always and escape plan. Even if it's just for a breath of city air.

I'm wearing another sweet jacket from Collection B which is extremely warm and perfect for this chilly Fall season! This bomber style jacket has a faux fleece lining giving it a vintage-like touch.

It has already started raining here in California, creating a vivid autumn creation for the senses. It's october; time for pumpkin patches, loose, twirling coloured leaves, and that happy feeling of warmth within which rivals the cold skies outside.

She decided that she was never going to get old, not, at least,
with all her mother's anti-aging creams, serums and moisturizers placed in towers on the upstairs bathroom counter.
Cold water flashed her face with cold hands.
She snatched a washcloth with closed eyes and dabbed the drops from her face.
She caught a glimpse of herself reflected in a pale blue, dawn light.

She saw something young, but a something young
that had stretched out too many late nights which then had melted into too many late mornings.
She thought about all of her abandoned half drained glasses of water on stained, wooden coffee tables.
She lifted a pale pink jar with a golden lid which had a lovely, lame' "L" laced onto the front.
The cream had a pearl glow, a flowery scent of summer soaked evenings, and had a sheer lightness to her touch.
There were other bottles of glass and plastic in several colours, only kept filled by the ideas of viridity, not it's prismatic essence.

None the less, she blended these ideas into her complexion, with conviction.
No, she was never going to get old, not at least with her mothers towers of youth stationed on the upstairs bathroom counter.

I'm holding my vintage 1930s limited edition Kodak Brownie camera, one of my huge camera collection. I think I have over a hundred cameras, but I really only count 64 of them as a decent part of my collection. The others are random, shitty point and shoots that I plan on taking apart and rebuilding. One day I will show off all my cameras on here. I've got some really fantastic ones worthy of a full blog post.

Falling for Fall.

It's the last 2 weeks of summer. Officially. And I'm thinking how much I really enjoyed this summer. Thinking how much I love the afternoon sun hitting the ocean. Thinking about laying in a big bed with orange lights. Thinking about postcards and cameras. About car rides and Ferris wheel rides. Long walks and strong feelings. Red lipstick and peter pan collars. Records players and tropical fish.

Tattoos and playgrounds. Farmers markets and fireworks.

I can't ever go back to this time; the Summer of 2011. But I can be happy knowing how happy I was with life and my best friends.

I wonder what the Fall will bring...

Sometimes I look at the people, I love around me and wonder why the hell they love me.

I have the best friends. THE BEST best friends. They are incredible.. and I'm.. well, I'm me.

I can be a bit brash, brutally honest, and cold. I've got my good qualities but I really don't deserve the amazing people that have surrounded me with such love and loyalty. Some of them live so far away, but I haven't ever felt closer to anyone. So basically my point is.. HOW did I get so crazy lucky. I guess I should stop asking myself and start telling them how much I appreciate them.

Even if I started now, I could never finish.

Yesterday I went to Mission San Miguel for a little photo shoot. Its about 25 minutes away from where I live, but I haven't really ever been there. I hoping to take my next client out there for a shoot. Something about me that I'm sure, I have mentioned is that I HAVE to travel. Whether its across the room or to another city, I have to keep moving. I find myself taking these spontaneous trips because

I have traveling in my blood.

Just the feeling of being in a new place or exploring a familiar one is what I live for.

I've always got great intentions of freedom and adventure in mind.

I'm the girl that needs to find out what's at the very end of path and around the corner of the next street.

I have to keep moving to see and feel everything I can see and feel.

Im very exhausted from a full day wedding I shot yesterday in SLO, but I'm headed out this afternoon to finally do another look shoot! It's been pretty busy around here, but I need to get back to mod Fox! But for today I wanted to share some lovely fall items that I wouldn't mind picking up. Still searching for a lovely pussy bow blouse such as this one from Urban Outfitters. Although overpriced, this kimono from Topshop is romantic and perfect for breezy fall days. I'm still lusting after this statement necklace and these sweet velvet pants from Threadsence.

And lastly, these Forever 21 boots are in one word: Badass. Love, love, love.

Satchel- Urban outfitters

Hello all. I want to say thank you for your comments and emails! Ive been trying to respond to all of them in a timely manner, but I must say, Ive been a bit distracted. I just started school last Monday and I'm still figuring out my schedule and getting into the swing of things. It's always very disheartening to go back to school. It makes the entire summer feel like it never happened.

And I've had an INCREDIBLE summer. I drove to BC Canada, spent time with my Canadian best friend, bought my new camera, hung out in LA, Made a new best friend, and just lived life. It was the greatest time. I know a few classes won't change of of that.. but things do feel a bit different. My life has changed drastically in the past week, so i need a bit of time to digest everything.

On the upside- my contest has been extended until this Thursday the 18th, when I will be announcing the winner of the fab dress below.

The above photos were taken last week or so in SLO during a much needed shopping trip.

I also bought that sweet red satchel as my school bag for this fall. I think it looks like a cute little girl in the 60s would be bouncing around campus with it.

Happy August! I've been doing a lot of shoots and editing lately, thus my lack of posts.This dress looks very early 60s air stewardess. I feel like I"m going to hop on a plane and get off in 1960s New york. That sounds nice. Actually just the thought of hoping on a plane and going anywhere sounds really nice. I miss not knowing where I'm going. Its such a freeing feeling.

This feather tattoo is in fact, fake. It's henna, but I've grown really attached to it. A Russian lady at the local Mid-state Fair drew it on me. I'm really not crazy about tattoos but I like this one, so I think I would get a feather like this for realsies.

Tonight I'm heading off to the fair again for the last time with my friend, Pete.

I think it's been a pretty great summer.

Alicia's 21st/ Missiko Flat iron review

Last weekend we celebrated my best friend Alicia's 21st birthday! We went to the bars in Slo, the mid-state fair, and on a mini road trip to the coast. It's been so much fun!

Now my review of the Misikko Flat iron!

I received an amazing Hana Professional flat iron from Misikko hair products and was very excited to try it out. I straighten my bangs everyday and the rest of my hair occasionally (for my more Mod look), so my other iron was kinda on the fritz, so I was ecstatic to have it replaced. I plugged in my Hana iron after drying my hair and using the Hana Shine shield. The ceramic plates and high heat made my hair very straight and it stayed straight all day and night.

I've gone though many irons and this one is really the best one I've ever used!

This is what my hair looked like after my shower.

And now the finished product! Straight, smooth and shiny hair!

This iron actually sealed in my split ends(yes I have some, who doesn't?) and made my hair soft and damage free. I highly recommend this iron and other products from Misikko.

Just a quick little shoot with two of my best friends; Bibbles (the gentleman in the vest) and Pete (tattoos and greaser kid style). These guys are starting up a band, which still needs a name.
Anywho I shot a few photos of Pete and damn he is a good model, right?

I can't tell if he makes me look better in photos of if I just look terrible by standing next to him.

This Monday Pete and I have a pro photo shoot set up by another photographer friend of mine, which should be fun. We are going for a modern 60s look.. what else is new. hah

I'm wearing my 60s velvet minidress that I bought for 3 bucks at a local thrift store. It should have been 60, and that my friends is why I love thrifting.

Just out for a walk with my little goatie, Brownie.

So I'm sitting here on a quiet Saturday afternoon with the Woman's World Cup on in the background pondering what I'm doing with my day, summer, life. It's a strange feeling when you realize that you have to change all your plans and goals because it just doesn't feel right anymore. This could be due to your own changing views or the heavy influence of others. I need to find my own way. Even if that means not knowing what the hell I'm doing right now. And I really don't know what the hell I'm doing anymore.

Still there are things in my life that make it a little more clear for me. The only things that really make any of this easier; my best friends. One of them, being the rightful owner of this lovely cardigan I'm wearing above. Boy's cardigans are the best. They are so comforting, slightly oversized and smell fantastic.

I need more of this in my life.

My first jacket from Collection B!

When I first received this jacket I was so happy to get started on my collaboration with Collection B, but then a bit puzzled as to what would look nice with a white leather jacket. I'm usually sporting my black leather, so it took some thought and outfit planning. Eventually I saw that the best thing to do with such a brilliant white is to keep it simple. So I paired my jacket with a vibrant, silk, bow pattern dress sent to me by Forever 21 and added some black accessories. And I do love this jacket. It fits so well, which is hard to come by in outerwear. Collection B is a fantastic company, so visit their website, enter to win $1,000 and get a free music download! I've been sporting the beret I bought at Playclothes in LA lately because it looks very 60s and reminds me of the lovely Annie Monroe from the Like.
For these photos I went to downtown Slo and even ventured to the ever popular "Bubble Gum Alley", a pretty nasty alleyway frequented by tourists for it's unique discarded chewables stuck all over the bricks. I've lived here my entire life but never really found it the ideal place to hangout. Admittedly it shoots pretty well and has extremely lovey colours and aesthetics, but in person it's kinda nasty... a cool characteristic of San Luis Obispo.. but nasty.

Apparently I now have a facebook fan page, so like away I suppose!

Not too sure how I feel about it yet.. but we shall see.

I love the sign but the room smelled thick with cig smoke. And I'm not a smoker.

I found this amazing Mondrian dress at Goodwill a few weeks ago. Some might call it a YSL dress too, whatever floats your boat. These photos were taken at the Surf Motel in San Francisco on my way back from my road trip to Canada.

I don't look too shabby for driving for 3 days and being a total road rat!

I love this little pink sailor dress from Whole sale dress.net!

I ordered two dresses from their site and they came in about a week,

which was super fast for company based in Asia.

The collar is very 60s influnced and th buttons couldn't be cuter. I changed up the first look from vintage, romantic to a more classic cool style. this dress works with everything.

Oh and the beautiful flowers were given to me by a really great, new friend. :)

So I've finished all my finals and I'm out of College for the summer! Now all I have to work on is packing for my road trip to Canada next week! I actually leave in just 6 days. It's going to be crazy, but I will be blogging all the way there with photos too!

How would you describe your style?

My style is very mixed :) i love trying out trends and having fun with colors! fashion fascinates me, each style has a sense of individuality and uniqueness in it, its like every style has its own personality! and i love meeting those personalities!

How does where you live influence your style?
The weather is very bipolar where i live haha. literally one day it could be a beautiful, warm and sunny day and the next day it would be raining. So that makes it hard on deciding what i want to wear the day before but i can usually just put a jacket over if it gets cold. plus it's not THAT bad just bad ha. Also Mother Nature inspires me and i can just imagine myself wearing a flowy dress, running around the beach having fun and just being care free! (random, i know lol)

How do others in your area dress?

Most people around my area dress very casually, usually shorts and a sweatshirt lol. But there are some fashionistas here and there and they are most definitely trendy :)

What do you love most about California?
The fresh air, the sunny beach, the warm sun, and the sense of freedom :)

What part of California are you from?
I was born and raised in sunny, southern California. Currently, I live in Orange County but work in the Los Angeles area. I really enjoy being able to explore both areas daily.

How would you describe your style?

I don't usually try to define my style, I just wear what I like and what makes me happy! My style is incredibly eclectic but I would say I definitely tend to dress in a very feminine way. My closet has classic pieces with a touch of whimsy and a hint of vintage inspired flair.

How does where you live influence your style?

Fortunately, southern California is incredibly culturally and economically diverse. I know a lot of people have the misconception that everyone in So. Cal. is wealthy, tan, blond and fake. While that may hold some truth in a few cities by the beach, most of us live and look completely different than those media stereotypes. The inspiration for my style comes from the diversity I see everyday. Of course, the weather is a huge inspiration too, it's so easy to throw on a cute, girly dress when the sun is shinning bright outside!

How do others in your area dress?

For the sake of this post, I will focus on how people my age dress. Of course, beach inspired clothing, big sunglasses and sandals are very common. There are is also a lot of "hipster" fashion (á la Urban Outfitters) going around. Hip hop influenced looks are very popular too (baggy clothes for the gentlemen and "J.Lo looks" {circa 2001} for the ladies). For a low key night out, dark jeans accompanied by a dressy top and sky high heels is a popular look as well. Bottom line is anything goes around here.

What do you love most about California?

I love the year-round sunny days. The local dog beach where my dog can freely chase the waves. The most deliciously ethnic food you can imagine! The varied nightlife that include my favorite salsa clubs. The road-trip "getaways" that are only a few hours away (hello Las Vegas and San Diego!). The endless events, museums and concerts to go to every weekend. And of course, all kinds of clothing shops galore!

The Mods Vs. The Rockers

In the early British 1960s, the younger culture was basically separated into two hip groups; The Mods- The suit wearing, Italian Vespa riding, proper modernists, and The Rockers- The grungy, hog riding, leather wearing rock and rollers.

These groups didn't exactly get along and caused a few big newsworthy riots.

These photos are from last week at my beach house in northern California. The fence is made of these wonderful old wooden stakes covered in dark green moss. It looks very cool.

Especially in photos.

That camera is an instax 7s. It's kinda like a very modern Polaroid camera.

My mom gave it to me for my birthday in march.

In other news, my best friend is creating a new band with a bluesy, garage rock style, so I've been writing some lyrics for him. My writing style is very.. descriptive in a dark romantic type of way.
